About Gilded Passage
Using a pallet knife Adam Cohen cuts into the thick layers of acrylic, creating dynamic lines and texture while the paint is still wet. The American artist is known for his grand gestural style—a hallmark of abstract expressionism. In this piece, the colours—turquoise, purple, orange, black and grey appear to flow down the canvas highlighted by a burnished gold and white.“Imagery as rich as Cohen’s cannot be planned in advance. It must develop organically from a spontaneous process. “ Carter Ratcliff, art critic
Cohen studied at Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art and lived and painted in Rome for a year. After many successful years as an illustrator, he returned to his first love--painting. Adam Cohen lives and paints in the Catskills, NY. Cohen has exhibited extensively in the US, Europe, Asia and most recently in Amsterdam and Venice.
