About Convivial
Canadian artist, Alice Vander Vennen was inspired to create this joyful, colourful and lively composition following a recent residency in France. Her contemporary sculptural pieces often revolve around the concept of a vessel—a canoe-like form that symbolizes life’s journey. With an eye for colour, shape and exquisite detail, Vander Vennen assembles her ‘found’ objects—stones, polished copper, new and archival textiles to form a compelling narrative. These framed pieces can be hung horizontally or vertically.“The textiles used in this piece come directly from that area (France). The colours, the dance-like shapes, and the mysteries of the ancient stones all add to the intrigue of this piece which so reflects the easygoing nature and the playful, intense colours of the French Riviera.” Alice Vander Vennen
Alice Vander Vennen trained as a sculptor at Calvin College, USA and at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Her work is held in public, private and corporate collections both here and abroad.
