About orange sun with 4 rocks
This minimalist colourful painting is the landscape reimagined and features the image of a sun.Aron Hill’s work is defined by a fresh, modern colour palette and simple, bold form—the signature style of renowned Canadian modernists like Jack Bush.
The Calgary-based artist often redefines the traditional landscape using hard-edge organic forms rendered in bright colours. In this piece, a bright orange sun—a recurring symbol for Hill that is symbolic of a ‘guiding light’ hangs in the sky above an arched deep pink shape that anchors the painting.
Curved yellow bands appear to emanate from the base drawing the viewer’s eye upward to the sun.
Four black ‘rock-like’ shapes sit stacked on one side of the canvas. For Hill, rocks are figurative and represent monument-like structures.
“These paintings use the recurring theme of rocks as both land markers and altars set against a seemingly empty space or landscape.” Aron Hill
Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.
