About Irises
Charles Pachter, considered to be one of Canada’s greatest living contemporary artists has embraced a new subject—flowers. Toronto born Pachter is best known for his iconic pop art paintings of barns, the moose, the Queen and the Canadian flag. But this new series of single flowers is both very real and sensual. Pachter’s characteristic bold colours dominate the canvas and the contrast between the rich ‘royal’ purple petals and the sky blue elevates the beauty and isolation of the image. Irises symbolize wisdom and valour and inspired the ‘fleur-de-lis,’ a decorative symbol used widely by French Royalty in the Middle Ages. A graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris, Pachter is also a printmaker, sculptor, designer and author. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal. He has honorary Doctorate degrees from the Ontario College of Art & Design, the University of Toronto and Brock University. His paintings are in public and private collections around the world.Framed size is 28 x 34 inches.
