About Bastion Recycled

Cheryl Wilson Smith has created a series of stunning sculptures from recycled glass; their form and textures inspired by the rugged beauty of her remote Northern Ontario home. This piece in a wintery white is built layer by layer in a rectangular shape resembling an icy fortress. The word ‘bastion’ means fort or fortification. The sculpture’s base– a chunk of translucent glass glows like ice.

She was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
