About Seeking: The Storm
Cheryl Wilson Smith creates exquisite sculptural art that is handmade from recycled glass and placed second in 2023 in a juried exhibition of sustainable glass art by the Glass Art Society based in Seattle. With this piece, layer upon layer of fine fragments of white ground glass (glass frit) forms a ‘tornado-like tower’ with a hollow center. The Canadian artist often finds inspiration in nature’s form, colours and texture. This series of vessels appears to have captured the frenetic energy of the wind in stormy weather.
“As I live in the Boreal forest on the edge of the lake, my home is grounded to the granite of the Canadian shield and I frequently observe the building and
resounding power, and reverberations of magnificent thunderstorms. This piece also reminds me of the emotional storm that can build and grow within each of us as we pursue our passions and try to stay true to our beliefs.”
