About Senza Misura

The graceful curves of this contemporary solid mahogany sculpture by David Chamberlain appear to emulate the image of a heart. Hand carved from one piece of this rare wood; the abstract form is one continuous loop. The naturally rich grain is highly finished with a soft lustre that accentuates the form. Chamberlain’s sculptures are designed to rotate so that the form and character changes with every turn.

A talented musician, composer and singer, Chamberlain’s artwork is inspired by the freeform language of jazz music. Each sculpture bears a musical name. Senza Misura is an Italian musical term that means to play ‘without a beat' or 'without measure.’ For Chamberlain, that term also relates to the ideal of romantic love—loving without measure as represented by this beautiful form.

“I’m influenced by relationships and patterns in things I both see and hear.” David Chamberlain
