About Woman With 3 Snakes

This contemporary abstract sculpture is made of steel in a geometric form and represents a female.

Forged in steel and painted in bright colors, this sculpture tells a story about the ancient mythological relationship between women and snakes. Historically, the snake motif has played a significant role in many cultures around the world, symbolizing the feminine divine and the struggle between good and evil.
With this abstract sculpture, Özgür has chosen to depict the familiar Christian narrative of earthly temptation as Eve is approached by snakes to eat an apple in the garden of good and evil. Three intertwined snakes painted in forest green and bright yellow—one has a red apple, are wound around an abstract female form.
The dynamic geometric design in a vivid color palette pops making the sculpture somewhat playful. Özgür’s artwork reflects his varied interests, in what “he observes in life ranging from political turmoil, economic crises, identity and women’s rights to the dilemma between modernity and westernization.”

“Although the problem of women's worth has been partially resolved with human rights, which is a very new concept in human history, the problem of gender discrimination is still a known fact in most of the world. This sculpture design is an abstraction that describes this situation by referencing myths and narratives.” Ferhat Özgür Görel
