About Pine Cone 24-386

This pop art steel sculpture of a pine cone is by Floyd Elzinga. His pine cones are uniquely beautiful table top sculptures inspired by nature. These contemporary pieces are hand forged from metal—this one in weathering steel. The fine detail of each piece is enhanced by its rustic finish. Elzinga’s work masterfully marries an industrial material with an iconic organic form.

(My artwork is) “Uniquely Niagara…an homage to the location as I have a real connection to the land.” - Floyd Elzinga

“Much like a painter with a brush, Elzinga uses metal-working machinery to create textures and strokes, with a color palette determined through means of polishing, burnishing, sanding, grinding, rusting, or heating.” - Paul McAtomney, Landscape Architects Network

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste and in Hanoi he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park.

Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
