About Du Coeur À l'Esprit

This contemporary figurative indoor sculpture was forged from bronze by Canadian artist Galina Stetco.

Stetco’s powerful figurative forms are often inspired and informed by her experience as an architect. The Canadian artist’s chosen themes are influenced by an interest in the deeper questions in life. With this piece, the silhouette of a human bust has a hole where the heart is located and a metal ladder covers the hole that leads to the head. The ladder is designed to suggest the process of transforming the heart’s desire into an idea. A lone figure in red patina stands in a gap created in the head. The title of the piece, ‘Du Coeur À l'Esprit’ means ‘from heart to mind‘ in French.

“The sculpture represents human aspiration to transcend the limits of knowledge and existence. This character invites the observer to project themselves, pursue their own dreams, and write their own story.” Galina Stetco

Galina Stetco was born in Moldova in 1975 and first attended art school at the tender age of 10, receiving her first diploma at age 13. In 2000, she graduated from the Technical University of Moldova with a degree in architecture. She emigrated to Canada in 2003 and has since lived in the greater Montreal area. In 2011 she dedicated herself full-time to working as an artist and started sculpting in 2013. Her work can be found in public and private collections in Canada, the US, Saudi Arabia, Moldova, Italy, Switzerland, and Egypt.
