About Platonic Solid Goes Digital
A stainless-steel cube is laser cut on three sides with the outline of a digital circuit board in this intriguing outdoor sculpture by Jake Goertzen. Beneath each of the three sides is a reflective coating of lively turquoise-green, sky blue and cerise. A former engineer, the artist pulls on his knowledge of mathematics in titling the work -- a platonic solid is a three-dimensional shape with many identical surfaces such as a cube (hexahedron) whose faces are six congruent squares. This work is the Artist's Proof from an edition of 20. It can be commissioned in varying sizes.Sculpting in a range of materials -- steel, marble, terra cotta and bronze -- Jake Goertzen has completed commissions for realist and inventive abstract pieces now on exhibit across Canada in private and public locations. Goertzen has studied at the Brentwood Art Center, the Santa Monica Fine Art Studio, both in California and the Forum Art Studio in Winnipeg. He holds a BA in History and a degree in Engineering. Goertzen creates emotive sculptures both indoor and outdoor in a range of sizes from figurine to life size and monumental.
