About Milky Way 4

This enigmatic and intriguing sculpture is by Jean-Pierre Morin. The Quebec artist is known for his compelling contemporary work inspired by natural form. This piece, forged from narrow strips of aluminum, are wound around one another to create a cylinder-like hollow form. Is this his interpretation of the galaxy we can see in the night sky? One of a series.

“His art emanates from a deep knowledge of the universe he questions; his vision is not Cartesian, the artist is on the lookout for what surprises, the irrational in the configuration and what is unexpected in the movement of the form.” Isabelle De Mévius, Artistic Director, La Poste Gallery, Montreal

Morin was born in Saint-Anselme de Dorchester, Quebec in 1951. After three years of attending the Saint-Jean-Port-Joli Sculpture School, he completed his studies with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Laval University in Quebec and a Master of Fine Arts, sculpture option, from Concordia University in Montreal. Morin has taught visual arts and both the University and College levels for twenty years. He has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the US, France, Germany and. Spain. The Quebec artist has produced more than thirty public artworks since 1988.
