Biography
“I work very intuitively, letting myself be guided by the material and the colors. I play with materials to find the perfect balance that will make my mosaics sparkle.” Laurence Petit
Laurence Petit has always loved feeling the material under her fingers. As a little girl, she played with her mother's scraps of fabric, spending hours touching, cutting and arranging them. When she discovered mosaics, she found the same pleasure in manipulating the material, cutting it and assembling it in new ways. Inspired by the fluidity of movement, her choices of textures and patterns are often reminiscent of textile fibres. Laurence Petit has had her own studio in Montreal called l’Atelier Gogofrisette since 2007. Self-taught, she developed and perfected her technique with notable mosaic art studios in Spain, the U.S. and Quebec. Her sculptures can be found in many public areas and she has directed several collective projects for special events within communities and schools in Quebec.
