About Chutes Des Cubes (commission)
This powerful minimalist outdoor sculpture is by Marc Plamondon. The Quebecois artist is known for his playful abstract sculptures that explore both negative and positive space. Inspired by the form of contemporary American sculptors, Plamondon favours imposing geometric shapes. This remarkable piece features three large bright white cubes in powder-coated aluminum. The cubes sit stacked at daring angles to one another and appear to be impossibly balanced. At night the sides of the cubes look like free-floating diamonds. The title–Chute des Cubes is a reference in French to the white water rapids found near Plamondon’s home and studio along the St. Lawrence River. This piece is available on commission in powder-coated aluminum. Please allow 8-10 weeks for production.
Marc Plamondon is a self-taught sculptor. He turned to sculpture after having studied and practiced photography and painting, especially watercolour. A former lawyer and professor at the University of Montreal, since 2005, he has devoted his time exclusively to the sculpture of various metals, such as recycled steel, aluminum and iron. He lives and works in Lotbinière, Quebec.
