This figurative, life-like, female cow, bronze, interior sculpture is by Canadian artist Nicholas Crombach. The Kingston-based artist creates artwork using traditional skills of representation from a variety of mediums including bronze and resin.
Old Bitch is masterfully rendered in highly realistic detail; its bowed posture appears to mimic a dog at play. The effect is both humorous and serious. Crombach’s thought-provoking work is often focused on humans’ complex relationships with animals—a natural theme for the young boy who grew up in the country. Edition two of eight.

Nicholas Crombach was born in Toronto (1989). He is a graduate of OCAD’s Sculpture and Installation program. He has received many grants and awards and was the 2016-17 artist in residence at The Florence Trust in London, UK, and in 2022 at the Studios at MASS MoCA in the US. Crombach has completed many public art commissions and has exhibited widely in Canada, Spain, and England.
