About Cavendish, PEI
Roch Smith’s ‘Tree Man’ series of bronze tabletop sculptures are playful pieces that feature figures whose human limbs have been replaced by tree branches. This figure is dressed for summer in a tank top and shorts; only his legs have been replaced by slender, textured twigs. The Canadian artist is known for his imaginative sculptural work which is often thought-provoking. The idea for this series came from the artist’s memory of a compelling natural image–tree branches lying on the forest floor. Smith collected these particular branches from the shore near Cavendish Beach in Prince Edward Island– a famous and popular Canadian beach.
“I love summer but it is in the winter when I am constantly looking at all the trees devoid of leaves and seeing their potential.” Roch Smith
