About Untitled No 5
A kaleidoscope of vivid colours form triangular patterns in this engaging contemporary work by Parvis Djamtorki. The German born artist has used tempera--an ancient, permanent paint that consists of coloured pigments mixed with egg yolk in reds, pinks, orange, yellows, blues, greens and orange. Tempera paintings are long lasting— examples from the first century AD still exist. Djamtorki’s use of colour and pattern in this piece is masterful.“By breaking free from the traditional rectangular format, and by combining form and color, I am able to achieve illusionary three dimensional effects.” Parvis Djamtorki
He graduated from the Art Academy in Lerchenfeld, Germany and studied with Hans Thiemann, a former student of 20th century modernist masters Kandinsky and Klee. Djamtorki immigrated to Vancouver, B.C. in 1981. Djamtorki has held numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada and in the U.S. A 20-year career as a furniture designer continues to inform his artwork.
