About Dock 5 (Tension)
BC artist Pat Service spent twelve summers at Professional Artist’s Workshops in Emma Lake Saskatchewan. A series of paintings were a result of those rich memories including several focused on the iconic form of a rowboat moored alongside a dock.In this abstracted piece the view is from above--the lake water is a deep purple, the boat--bright orange and pale yellow, and the L-shaped dock is the same bright orange outlined in pale yellow.
Service is exploring inspired colour choices and minimalist form.
“The simple layout and near-abstraction allows me to set up unusual colour juxtapositions. Using glazes and layering the paint over and over again, I seek an intense colour experience.” Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
