About Middle Lake
Cottage country—a classic scene is re-imagined in minimalist form and bright colours. This is Pat Service. She is considered one of Canada’s finest landscape artists. Here she recalls the view she enjoyed during many professional artist workshops at Emma Lake in Saskatchewan. The representation is simple—bold forms with clean lines depict a canoe, a cottage, a raft floating on the lake, a Canadian flag fluttering in the breeze. The colour palette is soft and pretty—yellow for the sky, green for the land and trees, robin’s egg blue for the lake. A Canadian story.“I was strongly influenced by my participation in the Emma Lake Painting Workshops in Northern Saskatchewan. The Emma Lake that I know is a small part of the lake and you can see across to the other side, tree covered, with the cottages, docks, and boats tucked in amongst the trees.” Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
