About Zaliatou 3/8
A voluptuous female figure is rendered in this compelling modern tabletop bronze sculpture by Paul Duval. The Quebec artist is best known for creating uniquely expressive figures in a variety of materials. With this piece, the figure appears head down, arms behind her back, a ball in one hand, caught in mid-air as if running, It is highly polished—a smooth, reflective finish that enhances the detail of the figure. Nudes have been a favourite subject of artists since the ancient Greeks first sculpted them. Duval’s figure is a contemporary ‘take’ on that tradition.
“In creating my characters, I try to capture a movement, posture, gesture or attitude exploiting curves and sometimes voluptuousness. I’m inspired by the harmony of shapes and textures.” Paul Duval
Duval is a member of the Canadian Sculptors Society and of the Conseil de la sculpture du Québec. He studied Monumental Sculpture at Université de Rimouski, casting at Maison des métiers d’art, Québec, and soldering at Cimic, Saint-Georges, Québec.
