Biography
(b.1958, Ottawa, ON) WATCH THE VIDEO Paula Murray studied science at the University of Ottawa, ceramics at Sheridan College and completed two residencies at The Banff Centre before launching a successful career. She has received multiple creation grants for her distinctive work and was elected to the RCA in 2006 and the International Academy of Ceramics in 2017. Living in Gatineau Park since 1980, her full-time studio practice has been inspired by her close relationship with nature, and the years spent sailing between Canada and South America raising her two children. A member of the Baha'i Faith, studying spiritual writings inspires many of the themes explored in her work.
She exhibits nationally and internationally having received awards and honourable mentions in prestigious exhibitions in Canada, Italy, China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan Portugal, Romania and the USA. Public art commissions include “Nautilus”, suspended in the entrance of Ottawa City Hall and pieces for recipients of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards. Her work can be found in museums and public collections around the world.
