About Sparrow
A beautifully rendered sparrow sits on a white branch in the center of this painting by Peter Hoffer. Known for idealized landscapes, Hoffer has chosen to honor a little bird indigenous to North America and parts of Europe. Sparrows are historically considered noble creatures as they have survived and thrived despite their many natural predators. Hoffer’s sparrow is exquisitely detailed against a gorgeous ethereal background of a cloud of turquoise and mauve. The Canadian artist follows the tradition of 18th and 19th-century European artists who often depicted prized or admired animals in the landscape."While we admire the beauty of the work, we are aware of a modern artist asking us to consider the process and the act of creation itself. “ Lynn Moore, Montreal Gazette
