About Burnt Sun Series - Dust Cloud #1

Rod Mireau created this contemporary wood wall sculpture in a tondo form.
The Canadian artist is known for his superb woodworking techniques but in recent years he has begun to use other materials including fiberglass. The form strikes a ‘balance between the organic and the geometric’. The wood is meticulously carved into stone-like pieces that highlight the wood’s natural grain and colour and are highly textured. Fiberglass pieces in black add dynamic contrast to the earthy palette.
Mireau grew up in farm country—the Saskatchewan prairie. Early images of wheat fields, broken machinery, and wooden farm buildings have inspired the form and themes of his own sculptural work. One of a series.

(I create) “forms on the edge of recognition, forms that conjure a space between fact and fiction, past and present.” Rod Mireau
