About Particles
A bird’s eye view of billowing clouds floats across this mesmerizing tondo created by Ryan Van Der Hout. The Toronto artist owned a telescope as a child and spent many hours fascinated by the sky. This black and white pigment print is perforated with a bright sunny yellow geometric pattern. The reflected light shines through the layers of plexiglass and mirrors behind the print. Another layer of coloured plexiglass on the back creates a yellow halo on the wall around the piece. This wall relief is unique and 1/1.“Conceiving of the photograph as something sculptural, Van Der Hout seeks to create photography that escapes the frame and challenges our notion of what a photograph can and cannot be.” Ryanvanderhout.com
He is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. Van Der Hout’s photo-based work has been exhibited in the U.K., New York and in Canada.
