About Sunset 2/2

As a little boy Ryan Van Der Hout used to peer at the heavens through a telescope. He was fascinated with the sun and the moon. This pigmented print by the Toronto artist captures an image of a setting sun over rippling blue waters. A precise design—perforations in the print glow with orange and reflects light revealing the layers of plexiglass and mirrored glass behind the image. The print is backed by another layer of orange plexiglass which creates a halo effect on the wall behind it. This is edition two of two.

“Conceiving of the photograph as something sculptural, Van Der Hout seeks to create photography that escapes the frame and challenges our notion of what a photograph can and cannot be.” Ryanvanderhout.com

He is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. Van Der Hout’s photo-based work has been exhibited in the U.K., New York and in Canada.
