About Labyrinth Series: CISTERN

Light pours through Susan Collett’s elegant ceramic vessel so that it appears to glow from within. Pieces of earthenware paper clay are meticulously hand-shaped, squeezed and layered in a line of movement that spirals from the base to form a ‘V’ shape. The Labyrinth Series of vessels are almost abstract expressionist in form.

“I allow light movement through the many surface perforations, to evolve a perceived fragility: undulating forms, movement of clay and light with a constant exploration of shale and ledged formations – a metaphor for life’s layers.” Susan Collett

She graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's prestigious Agnes Gund Memorial Award. Collett is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Susan Collett's work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.
