About Torrent IV
Inspired by nature, this dramatic image of a swirling torrent is one in a series of monoprints created by Toronto print and ceramic artist, Susan Collett. This monoprint began with the images carved into stitched copper sheeting using a drypoint needle. Oil-based inks were applied to this surface that was then pressed onto paper. The second stage of the monoprint involved the skillful application of paint to the copper plate and a second pressing adding highlights to the work.“Working with clay influences the printmaking, encouraging a sculptural approach. The plates composed of stitched and reconstructed industrial roofing copper gives a second reading of strength and organic tracings embossed into the paper, reaffirming perceptions of fragility and transience.” Susan Collett
She graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's prestigious Agnes Gund Memorial Award. Collett is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Susan Collett's work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.
