About Ether Series Grouping of Gold

These gold, brown, contemporary, hand-blown, glass vessels are made by Canadian artist Susan Rankin. Created from layers of translucent coloured glass that are masterfully manipulated to add distinctive patterns. The form is organic—the finish of each piece is highly polished and naturally reflects light. The three vessels in sizes ranging from tall to medium and small offer a dynamic grouping. Rankin chose the name Ether for the clear, clean air that lives above the clouds.

“The optics of the thick glass and the layering of powder-coated glass bits that create the surfaces of these pieces are otherworldly to me but can also make one think of a macro lens on an unknown object. It seems so sublime to pass from a solid to a Vapor. To inspire awe.” Susan Rankin

Susan Rankin graduated with honors from Sheridan College, Oakville Ontario, in 1989 and received a three-year artist in residency at the Harbourfront Centre glass studio. Rankin has studied glass at the Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack School of Craft, and Penland School of Craft in the U.S. She currently teaches glassblowing at the Haliburton School of the Arts, Haliburton Ontario. Rankin has exhibited extensively across Canada, the US, Belgium, and Japan. Her pieces are held in private, corporate and public collections in Canada, the US and Belgium.
