About Bonfire Minor 5/30

This elegant and dynamic contemporary stainless steel sculpture was created by Ulysses Veloso to emulate the warmth and shape of a bonfire. The Toronto-based artist has hand-forged this series—each of three seemingly infinite loops are highly polished to reflect light. The interior red/gold patination is achieved through more than 7 layers of burnt umber textured coatings. Veloso often finds inspiration in nature’s form and colour palette. His chosen themes are global. This sculpture is suitable for indoors or outdoors. Number five of thirty.

Sculpture created on commission, approximately 4-6 week lead time.

“Every culture in every part of the world, “fire” has been mystified, celebrated, and glorified. It has inspired great minds scientifically, spiritually, and politically…Its creative and destructive cycles are intrinsic to our culture. For the longest time, my fascination with campfires has fueled my artistic career. There's no better feeling than sitting around a bonfire, listening, telling stories, and laughing until tears are running from your eyes." Ulysses Veloso

Ulysses Veloso acquired a master’s degree in fine arts and a bachelor’s degree in sculpture and education. He has mounted 14 major solo shows and 24 group exhibitions in major museums, galleries, and alternative art spaces. Veloso has a long list of commissioned works both in the local and international art market. He currently works as the lead artist for an art and architectural fabrication company in Toronto.
