About Cygnus A

Canadian sculptor Viktor Mitic looked to the stars for inspiration in creating this striking contemporary sculpture. The elegant and ethereal abstract form of Cygnus A is intended to represent the ‘swan-like’ shape of a star pattern found in the northern skies. In Latinized Greek, ‘Cygnus’ means swan. Mitic initially made a prototype of this sculpture from recycled car parts and other materials. A 3D scan of the prototype became the template for this bronze piece that has an attractive blue, green and black patina.

“The sculpture is a representation of the celestial beauty and wonder that we find in the night sky. It embodies a sense of movement and fluidity, capturing the essence of the Cygnus constellation's dynamic presence. I wanted to create a work that combines elements of nature and the cosmos, inviting viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of the universe.” Viktor Mitic

Viktor Mitic was born in Serbia, emigrated to Canada and earned a BFA from the University of Toronto in 1995 with studies in art history at Sheridan College.
