SCULPT

7 September 2024 — 29 September 2024

Why do I make art? It’s because of mortality. It’s a way of really understanding life. And it allows me to give back something. Something beautiful.“ - David Chamberlain

SCULPT celebrates an exceptional collection of sculptors. Oeno Gallery is honoured to represent more than twenty masterful artists whose contemporary work explores this ancient artform in a variety of mediums, approaches and aesthetics. Sculpture created from stone, wood, clay, metal, paper mache or resin is a uniquely tangible and powerful means of expression that directly engages the viewer.

Frances Semple— “Sculpture is quite simply what I like to do.  My pieces are a reflection of how I look at the world around me and what intrigues me.”

Shayne Dark— “Sculpture has allowed me to convey my thoughts and ideas through a visual and tactile medium.”

Marie-Ève Fréchette— “I have always found it satisfying to create singular objects that have no function other than to exist.”

To carve, to cast, to chisel, to cut, to engrave, to mold forms whether figurative or abstract sculpture allows a viewer to touch, to walk around a piece, to experience how it interacts with light, shadow and its surrounding environment. Sculpture reflects our collective cultural history—the society, time and place it’s created in.

This exhibition is complemented by the artwork of several fine contemporary painters including Milly Ristvedt, Shayne Dark, Adam Cohen, Yvonne Lammerich and Ivo Stoyanov.

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 7th from 2-4pm. Join us for SCULPT on exhibit from September 7th to September 29th, 2024.
