Floyd Elzinga sculpture unveiled by Global Affairs at APEC Park in Vietnam
Oeno Gallery is pleased to have facilitated the acquisition of Floyd Elzinga's outdoor sculpture Resilient by Global Affairs Canada. The sculpture was unveiled on November 9, 2017, in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Park in Da Nang, Vietnam, by Canada's APEC Senior Official and Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-East, Peter MacArthur. Elzinga's oversized stainless steel maple leaf on a branch, bent and resilient against the wind, captures the essence of Canadian weather. The work was selected by Global Affairs to mark Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation.
The exaggerated size of Elzinga's Pop art inspired welded steel pieces transforms everyday objects into fine art. His unique leaf or pine cone sculptures are created in series and stamped with a number. Elzinga’s work, that has been featured at Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, is held in private and corporate collections. Floyd received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
